From the Principal
Dear Waddington community,
What an amazing first term we have had. It has been jam packed! Our students are ready for a relaxing break and we hope that you are all able to spend some quality time with each other over the holidays.
A couple of weeks ago we had Harmony Day which was such a lovely, heart-warming display of the strong community we have here at Waddington PS. This diversity was also portrayed on Friday by Room 8 who held our first assembly all around the Mem Fox book “I’m Australian Too.” Our students took the opportunity to speak in their home languages (of which there are many!) and we got the opportunity to appreciate our diversity. Well done to Miss Hoff and Room 8 for such a positive assembly.
I would like to extend our gratitude to our P&C who have worked very hard over the last couple of weeks to source donations for their fundraising activities. I encourage all our families to participate in the Guess the Eggs competition and the raffle. The money raised will go towards our school activities. The raffle will be drawn on the last day of school after our Easter Hat Parade! Remember to get those creative designs happening with your children for Thursday. We can’t wait to see all of the final products!
I wanted to let you know of some further staffing news. Miss Cianciosi has resigned from her Science and PE positions here at Waddington PS. We wish Miss Cianciosi the best of luck for her career. Ms Reeves will be taking on the Science role and we will advertise for this position in late Term 3. We are still in the process of looking for a PE teacher, and we hope to have the position filled when we return for Term 2. Miss Jones will be leaving us at the end of the term and is moving to London! Miss Woodworth will be returning to Room 9 as teacher for the remainder of the year. We have really enjoyed having Miss Jones with us, she has brought a happy energy and kind heart to her classroom and our school. We will hopefully see her when she comes back to live in Perth. Our numbers at Waddington have greatly increased this year. This is such a positive change for our school. Many of our new students are in our Early Childhood, and as you know, catering for our students and enabling them to “Strive to Succeed” is our number one priority. In light of this, we will be having Ms Chivers working with us full time again from Term 2 and she will be assisting Room 1 in the mornings 3 days a week. Ms Chivers will be teaching the Year 1 students’ literacy and numeracy, allowing the Year 2 students to work with Mrs Webster. This will allow us to better extend our students and cater for their learning needs. Ms Chivers will remain as Acting Deputy on her other days/times.
In other staffing news, Mr Greer (Room 5 teacher) will be getting married on Thursday! This is an exciting step for Mr Greer and we wish him all the best on this new chapter.
This week, we will be opening up our Uniform Shop on Thursday afternoon at 2:50pm – 3:20pm. We encourage parents/carers to ensure that they are ready for the change in weather which will be upon us in Term 2. We have ordered new red pants for our students and we are also getting a shipment of black leggings for our female students. A reminder that hoodies will not be allowed. Students are able to wear the Waddington jumper, jacket or a plain red/grey jumper.
Attendance has been strong this term, and I encourage all families to ensure this continues next term as it begins to get darker and colder. We pack a huge amount of content into our school days, and students need to be at school on time and every day to maximise their learning. Did you know that 10 mins late every day to school adds up? Have a look at the table below to see what it can mean:
Kind regards

Friendly School Plus Program
The holidays are a wonderful time to re-connect and take some quality time with your child/ren. Friendly Schools Plus have some fantastic tips and ideas on how to make the most out of your conversations with your children. Remember, as parents you are your child’s greatest role model. How you communicate with them will be how they learn to communicate with others.

Online Consent Form for Third Party Services & Student IT User Account
Over the past few weeks reminders have been sent out to those families who have not completed their online Third-Party Services and student IT user account consent forms. Thank you to the families who have already returned theirs and for those who responded to the reminders. We have had 80% of families complete the online consent form which is fantastic, however we still have a few families who have not returned one for their child(ren).
Please see the QR Code and link below to get your forms in before the end of Term 1 (which is this week!!). It will take no more than 2-3 minutes per child. We will also send home this week a paper based version of the consent form to try and make sure we have 100% of families respond before we start Term 2 2023.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
All about nutrition……
Please see below some great information from Foodbank about the importance of having breakfast every day.
Room 1 – Our Fabulous Year Ones and Twos….
And just like that, Term One is nearly over! What a wonderful start to the year we have had. Students in Room One have worked so hard and have settled in so well to their new learning environment. We have welcomed new students into our classroom and it has been wonderful to see new friendships being made and students treating each other with kindness and respect.
Year Ones and Twos have settled well into classroom routines and have demonstrated how well they can work with each other during our English and Mathematics group rotations.
In Mathematics this term, students have been learning all about place value and counting sequences. They have investigated properties of 2-D shapes and have even made ‘shape pizzas’. In measurement, students have been investigating and measuring the lengths of objects. Year Ones have been using counters and blocks and Year Twos are measuring in metric units. Room One loved finding things that were one metre long!!
In Literacy Year Ones and Twos are working on writing persuasive texts. We are using our Talk For Writing program to help identify how to persuade our reader, so don’t be surprised when your child convinces you that a sugar glider would make the perfect pet!
This term, students have enjoyed our theme ‘Under the Sea’. They have loved listening to and responding to both fiction and non-fiction big books, and have enjoyed learning about sea creatures.
I wonder where Term Two will take us…?
Keep up the wonderful work Room One, you are all stars!
