We would like to welcome back all students and their families to Waddington Primary School for 2020. We also wish to warmly welcome our new students and families to the school, who we hope have begun to feel the fantastic Waddington community spirit. In addition to new our new families, we welcome Ms Katherine Chivers to the Kindy/Pre-primary classroom - Welcome Ms Chivers! We have started the year with a very calm atmosphere across the school, with the children engaging in learning from the moment they walked into their classrooms. Thank you to all of our brilliant staff for ensuring a smooth start to the year.

Over the last 8 months, we have been developing the school's new Business Plan, which will guide our decision making over the next three years. This process has involved consultation with staff, parents and community members through the parent survey sent out last year, as well as through those involved with the school board. The Business Plan is still in draft form and will be presented to the school board at a meeting later this term. Please come and see me if you would like to discuss this further. As part of our future planning, we have better aligned our school values with our new priorities. Our revised school values are: Persistence, Kindness, Creativity and Courage. We will be working to embed the language of these values across the school throughout the coming year.

In past years, students with 'good standing' (those who have displayed consistent positive behaviours in the classroom and playground) have been rewarded throughout the term by participating in fun activities. We are continuing this in 2020, however will be shifting the focus a little. This year the students with 'good standing' will participate in activities that give back to the school or wider community. This will take place twice each term and will involve the students giving back in ways such as baking for a local elderly home, making reusable beeswax wraps to help the environment or gardening around the school. We look forward to sharing some photos of our first round of 'Clubs' for the year soon!

Another way we encourage and reward positive behaviours is through 'Dojo' points. Dojo is a free online reward system, which also has a great platform for communicating and sharing photos with parents. If you haven't already downloaded the app on your phone, please speak with your classroom teacher for assistance.

Last week notes were sent home to parents inviting you to attend our class meetings this week. This is an opportunity for parents to gain a better understanding of what to expect in each classroom. I encourage parents to attend where possible or make an appointment to meet with the classroom teachers if unable to make it along to the session. Room 1 and Room 5 meetings will be held after school today (Monday 17th Feb)  in their respective classrooms, while Room 9 parents are invited to join after school on Wednesday and Room 4 parents on Thursday. We hope to see you all there.

I am looking forward to working closely with parents to ensure we are providing the best education for all students at Waddington Primary throughout the year. As always, if you have any questions, comments or concerns, please don't hesitate to come and see me.

Orders need to be received by 2:30pm on Thursdays for a Friday lunch delivery. Huge thanks to the Waddington P&C for their organisation around this, as well as the Roseworth canteen staff for supplying the lunches. We're building a Nature Playground!

Dr Anne Aly, Federal Member for Cowan, recently informed us that we were successful with our application for a grant to build a nature playground at Waddington (thanks to Mrs Pearse's application-writing skills!). We are looking forward to planning our new playground with the students and will have our new playground built by the end of the year.

Highway Heros

Highway Heroes is Waddington’s social and emotional learning program based on the concept of everyone travelling on the “Highway of Life” in our own vehicle, at our own speed, experiencing unique and shared happenings. Primary school is one of your child’s first independent “Highway” destinations, and there, learning – academically, socially and emotionally – is a job of all students.

This term we are focusing on the ability to rationally distinguish a BUMP from a HAZARD, thus avoid a common human tendency to treat small difficulties (BUMPS) as an avalanche (a HAZARD).

Butterworth Park Youth Program

The City of Wanneroo Childhood and Youth Services Team will be running an amazing program for young people every Monday this term at Butterworth Park in Koondoola. There is no cost involved and it will be a drop in program at 4pm every Monday this term.

The team will be running multi sports, due to the basketball courts being under construction, which will include soccer, AFL and cricket. If your child is not interested in those sports they will have card games available for them to play as well.

Term 1 2020 Planner

The term planner for this term has been loaded to the school website. Please remember that this is sometimes subject to change and parents should also check the newsletter for events. CLICK HERE or go to the Term Planners tab on the home page to view the events happening this term.
