Newsletter #5 - June 29th 2020
From the Principal
Despite a very interesting start to the term, things have felt quite normal around the school over the past couple of months, with the resumption of most school activities. We have continued with our weekly mini-assemblies, which have been held via Zoom from each classroom, allowing students to quickly return to their morning routines. With further lifting of restrictions, we are excited to host our first classroom assembly this Wednesday 1st July. This was previously planned to be a 'virtual assembly', however, we are now able to have families and friends on site to enjoy the Year 3/4 class' assembly in person, with social distancing rules in place for all adults - we hope you can make it along.
Swimming lessons will take place in the last two weeks of Term Three, as planned, with all students able to attend. More information will be provided on swimming lessons next term.
Last Friday, student reports went home to families, accompanied by a letter explaining that, due to the interruptions to the usual school routines, grades were not allocated to students this semester. We look forward to providing the usual, more comprehensive reports for students in Semester Two. Parents are encouraged to make an appointment with their child's teacher to talk through reports if they have any questions or concerns.
You may have noticed the new gate and fence leading up to Reception that Mr Tait has built over the past week or so. Please note that the new gate will be closed after 8:45am, when the siren goes to signal the beginning of learning for the day, as will all external gates (except the main pedestrian gate). From 8:45am, any parents or visitors to the school will need to report to reception, prior to gaining entry to the school. This procedure ensures we know who is on site at all times. If parents need to collect children, or deliver anything to them, we ask that you please make these requests at reception. The gates will be re-opened just prior to student collection times.
This Friday, 3rd July, is the last day of the term, with students returning to school on Tuesday 21st July. We hope you enjoy the school holidays with your children and we look forward to seeing them back next term.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Last Monday, 22nd June, we decided to have a day dedicated to fun! All students participated in the day, which saw them learning about coding robots, decorating (and eating) their own cupcakes, building pasta & marshmallow towers and much more. The children enjoyed a free sausage sizzle, cooked by Mr Tait, and we were greatly appreciative of our P&C who helped out for the day also.
What's been happening in Room 1?
Room One has had a great Term Two, everyone had settled back into school routine beautifully!
The students have been working very hard in Learning Rotation Activities. These lovely photos show Maths 3D activities, English groups with reading, writing and grammar activities, our beautiful flower chalk drawings and a rainbow creative writing activity. We so proud of the way all the students are progressing and can't wait for a full ten weeks of Term Three!
Kindy 2021 Enrolments now open!

In Highway Heroes this week your child has been introduced to the HIGHWAY BUMP of Friendship Flare Ups, which have been catergorized into 3 types: 'Spark', "Flame' and 'Fire'. Each reflects the size of the BUMP - or Flare Up intensity. Children who can de-catastraophise friendship issues, will be better able to deal with the conflict in an emotionally health way - and this is a Smart Skill 4 Life. This is the Friendship Flare Ups Poster that the children have been discussing today.
The Triple A's responses of Accept and Assert, are HIGHWAY TOOLS. They have been introduced as a way of dealing with friendship flare ups and represent emotionally healthy and socially appropriate ways of responding to HIGHWAY BUMPS. The Triple A's 4 Friendship Flare Ups remain the same 3 choices: Accept, Assert or Argue - and as previously, the emphasis is on the first 2 responses.
