From the Principal
Dear Waddington Families,
As we reach the end of Term 1, I want to take a moment to thank you for your ongoing support and involvement in our school community. It’s been a wonderful start to the year, and we have some exciting events coming up before the holidays.
We warmly invite all families to join us for our ANZAC service on Tuesday, 9th April, our Harmony Day picnic lunch on Thursday, 10th April, and our Easter Hat Parade on the last afternoon of term, where students can showcase their creativity—there’s even a prize for the best hat in each class! Larissa Muir, our new Waddington School Board Chair will be one of our judges, along with one of the 12 Bucket Mentors.
As a school, we are focusing on reading and literacy this year, and we encourage families to support this at home by making reading a part of everyday life. Every little bit helps in building strong and confident readers.
A big thank you to those who completed the Be You survey. While we didn’t quite reach enough responses for the students to receive an icy pole reward, we truly appreciate your time and input.
Wishing all our families a safe and happy holiday—I look forward to seeing everyone back for an exciting Term 2!
With warm wishes to you all,
Ms Katherine Chivers
Principal

Attendance – Everyday counts!

Breakfast Club – Thank you Woolworths Mirrabooka!
We would like to acknowledge with thanks Woolworths Mirrabooka for supporting our schools breakfast club, our students appreciate you!

Room 1 – Learning about Sea Creatures!
What an exciting year it has been so far in Room One! The students have been busy exploring, learning, and growing in so many ways.
Each morning, we start our day with a Yarning Circle, where we come together to greet one another, acknowledge the land on which we learn, and share our school values and highlights. This special time helps us build a strong, respectful classroom belongingness.
Our classroom has been bubbling with excitement as we dive into our theme, The Sea! Students have loved learning about fascinating sea creatures, writing exciting sea adventure narratives, and even enjoying a pretend beach picnic at school.
In Literacy, students have been developing their reading and writing skills through daily reviews, reading group activities, oral language games, spelling and phonics activities, and reading big books, which is a favourite!
Maths has been hands-on and engaging, from counting activities to measuring the length and mass of different objects. Students are learning to skip count by 2s, 5s, and 10s, and represent two-digit numbers in different ways, including making bundles of ten. They are enjoying adding collections and writing number sentences as well.
In History, we have travelled back in time to compare household items and activities of the past with the present. Students were fascinated by how everyday life has changed over the years!
Room One is also very lucky to enjoy Sport, Science, Art, and Music with our wonderful specialist teachers, providing fantastic opportunities for creativity, movement, and discovery.
We are so proud of all the learning happening in our class and look forward to more exciting adventures ahead!
