Newsletter 5

From the Principal

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are over halfway through the term! It is definitely moving quickly. We have had a wonderful few weeks with many of our classes back to normal numbers. It has been positive to have our students back and classrooms getting back into some normal routines.

We will have our Annual Public School Board Meeting this Wednesday (1st June) at 10:30am in the library. This is an opportunity for any of you who would like to know what happens at our board meetings to come along. We are always open to new members and would love for some new volunteers.

We received information last week from the Director General of Schools that we are able to make some changes to reporting for Semester 1 due to the COVID situation. I will be sending out a letter this week detailing what Waddington PS are following, along with some information about parent teacher interviews. I would encourage you to read through the information when it comes home.

Tomorrow 9:00am – 11:00am REDIMED will be here giving free flu vaccinations to anyone in our Waddington PS community. This will be happening in Waddy Hall. With the flu season upon us, I would encourage you to consider getting yours and your child’s flu vaccination. The advice from doctors is that this can greatly assist with keeping the flu at bay and due to our current COVID situation, this is vitally important. If you would like to book in, there is still time. Just use the link or QR code below to open up the booking system. I know that a few families have had trouble with the QR code, so please come and see us in the front office if you are unable to access the booking system and we can help you.

A note went out last week about our voluntary contributions and those who pay by Friday 24th June 2022 will go into the draw for a $50 Coles/Myer gift card. Voluntary contributions are important for our school as they assist us with buying resources such as exercise books, whiteboard markers, extra iMaths books and other essential items.

Lastly, a reminder that this Friday (3rd June) there is no school for students as we have a staff development day. The office will be closed from 12:30pm onwards as our front office staff will be joining us for some very important professional learning.

Kind regards

Jemima Tomlinson

Principal

Third Party Services Online Consent Form

Thank you to those families who have already completed their online consent forms over the past few weeks. We still have a few outstanding and it is important that we have all forms completed before the end of Term 2.

As previously explained this consent form needs to be completed to ensure the school has your consent to create an IT user account for your child and for them access websites and various apps used in the classroom.

Below is a link to the online consent form, if you haven’t completed this yet just click on the link below and it will only take 2-3 minutes to complete for each child.

If you have any questions or have issues accessing the online form, please drop into the front office and we can assist you.

Room 5 – Our School Leaders

As per usual Room 5 is very busy. In the classroom we are loving reading through our class novel, Holes by Louis Sachar and learning about multiplication in maths. We finished last term with some amazing stop motion projects.

We are so lucky to have so many exciting visitors to the school this term. Some of these visitors include: the bike mechanic who recently fixed some of our bikes in preparation for the bike riding lessons starting soon. West Oz Wildlife where we were able to meet some of the amazing animals that live in our country and learn all about them. The rugby clinic where a coach from Rugby WA came and taught a few of the skills involved in playing rugby.

Fun with West Oz Wildlife incursion – some very brave students indeed!

Every second Friday we also get a visit from the Global Roaming Pilbara Foundation. They bring us amazing presents and are teaching us valuable life skills such as: confidence, self-care, responding to emergencies, first-aid, self-defence and decision making.

Our Years 5 and 6 students and the wonderful Global Roaming Pilbara team – such fantastic opportunities

A big focus in our room is leadership and the student leaders have been trying to build their skills by starting initiatives such as our Litter Club on Fridays, awards and PA announcements. Keep an eye out for more initiatives coming soon.
