From the Principal
Dear Parents/Carers,
We are heading to the end of Term 2 and we have been extremely busy!
Our ceilings were finally finished at the end of last week and I appreciate all of the flexibility shown by our staff and students who had to move classes during this time. It was seamless, and I think the students enjoyed getting to work in a different classroom. You may have noticed as well that we have a new siren! We now get to choose songs for our school day, and we have all been loving the change!
We will be having our first ever dance concert on the 29th June at 1:45pm in the undercover area. We would love parents, guardians and extended family members to attend to see the amazing performances our students have been working on.
From 1pm – 4:30pm on the same day there will also be a COVID pop up clinic in the library. So if you would like to get your COVID vaccination, or need a booster, you will be able to walk in. No appointments are necessary. If you would like your child to be seen, you will need to be with them.
Our amazing artist Loretta Egan has been working hard on the mural in the undercover area. Noleen Brockman will be finishing it off with our students early next term. It has been a beautiful addition to our undercover area and it is all looking fresh and uplifted.
We were successful recently in obtaining a grant to create a commemorative garden for the Queen’s Jubilee. We will be designing a space next to Room 5 and will have a commemorative event in Term 3.
I also wanted to say a big thankyou to all of you for supporting our students to wear their uniforms. There has been a huge increase in students who are coming to school in their school shirts and jumpers. Please remember that hoodies are not allowed as they are a safety concern.
Lastly, I wanted to inform you of some staffing changes for Term 3. Miss Martina Schaffner will be leaving us as Mrs Webster will be working in Room 1 full time. Mr Seyhan Corr will also be leaving Waddington PS and Miss Hoff will be recommencing as the Science teacher. We have appreciated the hard work and efforts of both Martina and Seyhan and we wish them well in their future roles. The Year 5/6 one day a week position has also closed and we will let you know once an appointment has been made.
Kind Regards
Jemima Tomlinson
Principal

Room 9 – Learning about Australian Animals
Time has flown by in Room 9 and we cannot believe we are nearly half way through the year!
Our term theme of animals has been embraced in every aspect of our classroom and we have worked on some very rewarding projects. As part of our iMaths investigation we researched and created habitats for some Australian animals in need of shelter, using our construction skills and held a gallery walk for Mrs Tomlinson.
We have enjoyed exploring the text ‘We’re going on a Bear Hunt’ as part of Talk for Writing, we were even visited by a Bear who left big muddy footprints on our floor! We decided to paint our own muddy footprints on paper “squelch, squerch, squelch, squerch, squelch, squerch” as we explored onomatopoeia.
On theme, our dramatic play area was transformed in a Veterinary Surgery and we explored different roles people play to keep animals healthy or to help them when they are sick.
Together we have explored colour mixing to create our shimmering city skylines, as we learned about the features of our city in Geography. With lots of fabulous projects displayed we cannot contain our excitement over how good they look exhibited!
